I decided to call this post the ‘Art’ of hydration because we tend to over use the words ‘importance’ and ‘need’ when it comes to recommending a good skin care solution to our clients- and we never want to preach! Also it actually is more of an art, because it helps to know the why’s, where’s and how’s of using certain products at specific times.
At this time of year the weather and associated temperatures can play havoc with our skin, hair and nails. The colder snaps slow our skin activity right down while the body’s focus is on keeping our core temperature even, meaning that there is less oil produced by the pores and the water left on the surface of the skin quickly evaporates. The result is often dry compromised patches on the skin and occasional flakiness.
To help avoid this it is important that you keep your skin hydrated with a richer moisturiser especially on the days where the temperatures hit 0! A really good tip is to incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum into your routine- and this is not just a gimmick- hyaluronic acid holds up to 1000 x its weight in water and can lock in moisture for the skin. Using one of these daily underneath a moisturiser will make all the difference. HA serums can be used around the eyes and over the lips, so load up!
If you work outside, run or walk the dog a little tip is to use a layer of night cream on the skin before you go out, this is often richer in consistency than a day cream and will provide the added barrier function- but don’t forget to still use your SPF over the top. * A note to remember – Do not use a night cream with retinol or Vit A as these are only night care ingredients and they are light sensitive.
Why not book to have a rehydrating facial? We offer the ultra hydrating Time Defence facial by 3D – perfect to get you through this dry cold season. It comes in 3 lengths- 30 mins, 60 mins or 90 mins depending on what suits your time and skin needs.
Remember – Valentines day is around the corner and our mantra here at Skin Fit is ‘First Love is Self Love’ No partners needed!
