SkinFit Face and Body Clinic | Hampton | London

January had us turning up the heating, February is blowing through with gusto, I wonder what March will bring?…..

It is typical at this time of year for allergy season to get up our noses and under our skins so this month I will be offering some top tips to manage your skin during this highly changeable season.

But First………

Unfortunately due to the recent rise in the cost of goods from suppliers, increase in energy bills and the impending significant rise in National Insurance for staff as of MARCH 3RD 2022 I have had to increase some of our treatment prices. This is something I have not taken lightly and have resisted doing since we opened our doors in October 2018. I have researched local prices as well as balanced that with the added financial pressure of supplies and I feel that our increases are reasonable.

It is never a nice feeling to have to raise prices but it is necessary at this time.

I know you as our clients believe in the value we offer and appreciate our high standards so I sincerely hope you will continue to enjoy our wonderful treatments for years to come.

Caring for your skin

Here at Skinfit Face and Body Clinic we care very much about skin, specifically your skin. I have worked for plenty of years in the beauty industry and every spare minute I get is spent training and mentoring my therapists. I am extremely proud of them all and you can be reassured that their knowledge of skin and skin treatments is superior to most. They confidently specialise in Skin Peels, at home treatment plans, skin technology and accurately assessing your skin and managing your expectations so please feel that you can book a skin and body consultation with anyone and receive the same knowledge and service.

One of the main skin concerns we are spending time on at the moment is compromised skin.

What is compromising my skin?

When we say compromised skin what we mean is skin that is not quite itself.

  • It might be sensitive or reactive suddenly with dry flakey patches appearing and no amount of moisturiser will help,
  • It could be more oily than usual resulting in breakouts
  • It could be appearing red on the cheeks, chin and forehead

If you your skin is showing these signs but they are not your normal pattern then there are a few things that could be happening

  • Hormones- the biggest skin disrupter – changing hormones affect the activity at the base of the pore or hair follicle. More activity caused by a surge on androgens can cause inflammation and increased oil production. Less activity can result in less water and oxygen to the area causing dryness and dehydration. Check out www.newsonhealth.co.uk to see what Dr Louise Newson has to say on hormones.
  • Environment and weather- winter brings central heating and cold days. We do not drink enough water in the winter, its a fact. Therefore the skin can be prone to dryness and sensitivity caused by the dryness. Is you skin better in summer?……….
  • Allergy season- Atopic reactions to allergens can exacerbate sensitivity
  • Stress- Stress itself doesn’t cause skin problems but the habits we adopt when we are stressed certainly do. Lack of sleep, under eating, too much caffeine and too much sugar, over eating, these can all cause a more physical reaction.

If you know that this is you then do not despair, we are available to discuss what you can do to help and what we can offer here in the salon.

In the meantime here are some top tips to help your skin at home:

  • If you have eczema or dry, flakey, sensitive skin try washing your face in boiled and cooled water. Hard water can take its toll and a bit of purified water can make all the difference.
  • Try not to over cleanse your skin- cleanse just once per day at night to remove the day from your skin but when you wake up just splash with water to remove residue of cream. when you cleanse your skin it takes up to 12 hours for your skin to regain its oil and water integrity , cleansing in the morning means that it has to work hard all day and can leave you skin vulnerable.
  • Exfoliate regularly and use Retinol when you can. Natural and pure Vitamin A is super good for skin health but make sure it is the real thing.
  • Use moisturiser and SPF when you exercise. The extra layer will help stop the skin dehydrating especially on cheeks.

And Finally……
